Verata ("we", "us") builds software that helps students organize their college applications and understand their admissions odds. We handle education data, often about minors, and we treat that responsibility as first-class.
To provide the product: store your work, compute your (directional) odds and portfolio analysis, surface deadlines, and let you share access with a parent or advisor you choose. Odds are guidance, not a prediction.
Your data is private to your account. You may invite a parent or advisor with scoped, revocable access. Private essay drafts are not visible to parents by default. We use vetted infrastructure providers (hosting, database, email) bound to protect your data; we do not sell or rent personal information.
Many of our users are under 18. We design for FERPA-aligned handling of education records and are COPPA-aware: accounts indicating an age under 13 require verifiable parental consent before use. Parents may review, export, or request deletion of their child's data.
Encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, argon2 password hashing, httpOnly/SameSite session cookies, rate limiting, and strict input validation. No system is perfectly secure, but we hold this data to a high bar.
You can export all of your data and delete your account at any time; deletion permanently removes your records. Contact us for any privacy request.
We'll post updates here and adjust the "last updated" date. Material changes will be communicated in-product.
